Volunteer with us
Scouting is only possible through the efforts of 100,000 adult volunteers across the UK. We are a registered charity in the UK and part of a worldwide movement of 31 million Scouts working for peace and global friendship.
Scouting is about fun and friendship for adults too. Currently 51,000 young people still on our waiting lists throughout the UK there’s no better time to get involved.
Volunteering with our group can mean anything from helping with administrative tasks to assisting at section meetings. You can fit volunteering around your work and family commitments.

Make the adventure. Join the journey of Scouting.
Do you have the energy, enthusiasm and ability to inspire young people and join with them on the adventure that is Scouting? Whether you want to help on a regular or occasional basis, or have skills and experience that can help add to that adventure, there are opportunities for you!
If you’d like to work directly with young people on a regular basis, you can take on a sectional role as either a leader or an assistant for a section, from Beavers (6-8), Cubs (8-10) up to Scouts (10-14). Alternatively, you can help out on a more occasional basis, supporting us when we need additional pairs of willing hands, or if you have experience in certain activities, from cooking or camping up to kayaking or climbing, helping out as an instructor.
You don’t need any specific skills or qualifications to help at Scouts, and you can learn and gain experience and knowledge as you volunteer. Scouting is about flexible volunteering, and if you are willing to lend us a helping hand, we can help you find the best role for you!
Here’s what you can expect:
- Use your current skills and gain new ones
- Try new things and gain qualifications like First Aid
- Become an active member of your community
- Meet new people and have fun
We have opportunities including:
- to support young people
- in behind the scenes roles
- to help lead our Groups, Districts, Counties and Regions as volunteer managers
- to volunteer in the local Scout shop
